This above all-to thine own self be true...
"How did this all begin", you may ask. Well, here's he story! Upon first introduction to Shakespeare when I was right around 10 years old, I immediately fell in love with his writings, his characters, and his insights. I consider him to this day as my "OG" of Philosophy and Human Behavior. As I have traveled this journey of life, his wisdom, raw emotional honesty, truth and humor have always been there, like an old friend holding space when I've needed it the most. In addition to my passion for literature, I have been a long time practitioner of natural plant bases remedies and alternative healing and my soap making adventure actually began early in 2019. I immediately embraced this new found outlet for my creativity and loved the alchemy of creating our own natural bars using simple, organic, easy to understand ingredients.(I mean c'mon, even Shakespeare's Sonnets are an easy read compared to the ingredient list on most soaps on store shelves).
The flash of inspiration of combining my two passions came recently during one of my husband, Jesse and my "Mid Monday Morning Marathon Meditations" Like a lighting bolt through my soul, i was immediately inspired! I jumped up( loudly and successfully ending the meditation for us both, sorry Jesse)grabbing my notepad and pen "What if, I could "synergise" soaps to reflect each play?" I shouted" What if I can conjure the perfect fragrance that embraces each theme? You know, a fun and frolicking orange patchouli for A Midsummer Nights Dream, a romantic yet dark musky floral for Romeo and Juliet, and yes, oh yes Lavender for Tempest, for sure!?" "And ..and.."I went on to a very stunned Jesse, "here's some more awesome, I will wrap each bar in the actual corresponding play verses "upcycled" from used and discarded books, that way maybe I can ignite a passion for my man Shakespeare in someone else!?"
And So -The Shakespeare Soap Company was born!
And here we are. Most days you will find me, flitting around the farm with a copy of Shakespeare’s collected works always within reach, plant oils and essences covering almost every surface and the scent of herbs, spices and flowers wafting through every room. Yes, Jesse and I are still committed to our Marathon Meditations because you never know what we might come up with next!
As our company grows, we are gathering a small and passionate group of people to help us. At this point, we were still mostly making soaps for farmers’ markets, festivals, family, and friends. The response to our products has been incredible -- and we realized that we needed a website to help customers find us in between various markets and festivals.
We would love for you to share in our vision and invite you to try some of our unique products and feel just how different and luxurious our hand made Soaps are!
